This past week I met with a few men in our local church and we discussed the following verse: 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! (Matthew 11:19 NKJV) These were words of accusation from the opponents of Christ. They were meant to discredit his character and ministry. It was an early church example of ‘cancel culture’. The mob was hungry and they sought to devour Jesus. And we know how the story goes, they eventually crucify Him on a tree.
