Meditation Mondays: Revelation 4: 9-11: God Rules From His Throne
9 Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
11 “You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.” (NKJV)
The throne of God represents God's sovereignty over all things. How relevant is this during our current crisis? Our God governs from His throne. He didn't frantically stand up out of the throne because of COVID-19. He sits and governs and is in charge of all things including the coronavirus. He is using the coronavirus to accomplish His good purpose. Satan wants to use it for evil. God uses it for good (Romans 8).
Now, I introduced you to the Cheribum last week and here we continue to see them as the "living creatures". These living creatures are arranged around the throne of God and they are worshipping Him. They are fixated on the throne where God is and they are acknowledging His glory. They are acknowledging His honor.
And in our passage today, we see something else. We see 24 elders follow suit in their worship of the Lord. Now, these elders represent the redeemed of the Lord- those whom Christ died for. And we see them worshipping through their declaration of God's worth, glory, and honor. We see their confession that our Triune God alone created all things and sustains all things and as Christians, we know this is a fixed truth.
If we engage with social media for any length of time today you will notice panic. People are genuinely scared. The Cheribum modeled their confidence in our Triune God and the 24 elders followed. How much more will an unbelieving culture follow us as we model confidence in our Lord who rules from His throne? He is worthy. He is glorious. He alone deserves all honor and praise and He sustains the world by the Word of His mouth. Today, rest in that reality. Our God is sovereign and nothing with thwart His Kingship and His Kingdom.
